A Love Worth Biting For (Hart Clan Hybrids, #1) - Roxy Mews Enter to win it on I ♥ Bookie Nookie Reviews (9/30 -10/05)

New author, Roxy Mew’s debut novel, A LOVE WORTH BITING FOR, has the humor that I crave and the romance I expect in my paranormal romance reads.

Amber is a wolf and Jake is a vampire, so, from the get-go, their love is not a match made in heaven and both are resistant to giving in to the mating pheromones that have them blinded with lust. But they are both smart and know that a life together will be everything except for easy – vampires and werewolves don’t exactly have an awesome track record for getting along in their world.

Amber is my favorite kind of heroine, she is sassy and snarky and strong, but let’s not forget funny! She is really funny! She is also the daughter of the Alpha for her pack, so she has a bit of a spotlight on her – there’s no way her mating with a vampire will fly under the radar, so she tries really hard to resist the mating call. Amber is not easily impressed by the opposite sex, so watching her get sucked in by the mating call was fun.

Personally, unless you’re taking down a twelve-point buck with your shirt off—while covered in hair—I am not usually impressed.

Jake is smooth and sexy. At a glance, he appears to be just your average hunky co-ed, but he has a secret. Not only is he a vampire, but he also has a little werewolf in him – that side of him has been dormant for so long that he kind of forgets he’s not 100% vampire – until he meets Amber, at which point his wolf side is impossible to ignore. Jake is so caught off guard by the emotions that surface upon his first encounter with Amber, that he is convinced she has worked some kind of ju-ju magic on him and demands she reverses whatever she did that has him feeling out of sorts… He tries to come up with any explanation he can think of to understand what is happening to him.

Jake—still didn’t know his last name—didn’t move. It made me want to push him. “I do give off certain pheromones to attract prey. Are you sure you aren’t just responding to those?”

That would be convenient, but… “I’m sure. Your sister gives off those pheromones too. She couldn’t dazzle me, so I doubt the pheromone thing works on me either. And I had no desire to walk up and lick water off your sister’s chest.”

His irises flexed, and his face erupted in a grin that could have made straight men gay. “You want to lick me?”

Like a lollipop.

A LOVE WORTH BITING FOR is full of great one-liners that I wanted to share with you, but thought it best to let you discover them when you check out this new series for yourself. I am already stalking the next book in the series (it will be out next year and relax there’s no cliffy). Congrats, Roxy on your new book and I can’t wait to see what you have for us in the future!

Freeing Asia (Breaking Free, #1) - E.M. Abel Enter to Win it on I ♥ Bookie Nookie Reviews! (21 Winners)

I’m living my dream, and now, you can live yours.

WHAT A FREAKING GREAT BOOK!

E.M. Abel! I think I love you! I’m not into girls, but I might get into girls – just for you ;-) Thank you for writing such a great story with sexy characters – I freaking loved the characters in FREEING ASIA. Ok, I believe that's a sufficient amount of gushing – you have read enough about how great you are… Now get your ass in gear and finish book 2!

All right then, let’s get down to it! I already asked author, E.M. Abel if the heroine, Asia could possibly end up in a ménage and she just laughed and kind of waved it off – I don’t think she realized I was being totally serious – that would have made me really happy. Since that wasn’t in the cards, I kind of just threw my hands up and let the cards fall where they may because deep down,  I would have been happy with either direction love pulled Miss Asia (which is a really good thing, because no one asked my opinion and I didn’t have a choice in the matter).

image

Yes, I know – super hot, huh? You are welcome ;-)  Just ignore the minor details that Marcus actually has a head full of hair in the book and you’ll just have to imagine he has those super sexy tats Oh!  and Jay has tats too, but they’re hidden beneath the suit – I make shit up as I go and these pictures are how I envision Marcus, Asia & Jay.

Asia, GAH! She is one lucky bitch! She has grown up around a whole slew of sexy men and every last one of them are alpha to the core; with her being the only living female in the family, they are crazy protective of Asia. All the men in her life try to boss her around, but she is no shrinking violet and I know she can brawl with the best of them – I witnessed it. Okay, well, I read about it, but author, E.M. Abel is wicked good with a pen, so I felt like I was there…
If this is what it means to be free, then lock me up and throw away the key.

Marcus is love interest #1. He is her older brother’s best friend, but he is a bad boy and has been warned to stay away from Asia from an early age, but that’s not so tough at the moment, because he’s a professional skater and travels the world, but what about when he comes “home”? Can the bad boy resist the temptation that is sweet Asia?

Then there’s Jay, love interest #2. He’s a reformed bad boy. A devil in disguise but no amount of country club clothing can mask the beast inside the bedroom. There’s no doubt about it, Asia and Jay have chemistry in spades, but is it enough to conquer the history she shares with Marcus?

GOOD LORD! THAT MAN IS ON FIRE! Which one? BOTH! I WANT THEM BOTH!

FREEING ASIA is a great read for just about anyone who loves a smokin’ hot romance – just as long as you’re old enough to read the dirty-hot stuff!  Get it!  Read it! You will not be disappointed!

One to Hold - Tia Louise photo OTHteaser3_zpsc56b6e98.jpg
Escape from Paradise - Gwendolyn Field Beautiful. Disgusting. Exciting. Terrifying. Awesome.

I know! I am obviously a head case because I felt all those words were great descriptors of this little treasure of a book called ESCAPE FROM PARADISE. Full disclosure up front – if you have a problem with reading about situations of non-consensual sexual acts and kidnap/captive story lines, then you need to pack up and move on to another book, because that is what this story is all about. I for one am a lover of stories that sway deep into the dark side, so I was pretty much in heaven.

ESCAPE FROM PARADISE is a cautionary tale that warns against the evils of the world. It’s the worst punishment you could possibly imagine for doing the exact opposite of what your parents told you that you could do.

Angela Birch, not unlike most young college students, is mostly concerned about having fun right here and right now. When her parents tell her she can’t go to Mexico for Spring Break, she thinks the worst that could happen is that her parents will find out that she disobeyed them. Never did she ever stop to think that a girl’s worst nightmare would soon be her reality.

When Angela is tricked into “making out” with and is ultimately raped by the handsome and charming, Fernando, her life as she once knew it was gone in an instant. Her life now is as a sexual slave and she must learn to get past all the simple luxuries she once took for granted, like privacy.

We slaves have no secrets. No…what you say? Ah, privacy. We eat, we drink, we fuck, we shit where all can see.

Angela’s Master is the suave billionaire, Marco Ruiz. Considering the situation she is in, Marco is kind and affords his slaves a life in a lush and beautiful environment, so it could be worse, but being held captive and forced to have sex with strangers is no vacation in Angela’s mind.

The villa gave off an aire of romance, but it was a facade. Romance meant love, and love meant joy.

But joy didn’t live at the villa. Only temporary satisfaction resided here.

Even after 2 years in this lavish, but hellish existence, they are still looking for her; her parents, the FBI and private investigators. When undercover officer, Colin Douglas enters the picture, that is when things really start to heat up. Colin is the quintessential hero. He is charming and cunning, smart and sexy and against what his mind tells him is the right thing to do, his body totally has the hots for Angela and will stop at nothing to save her.

I am happy to announce that there is no cliffhanger, so don’t be shy – dive right in. I am super excited to see how the rest of the series pans out. Author, Gwendolyn Field is a new author and I really enjoyed her writing style, so I will definitely be back for more in the future!

The Suicide Princess - Anthony Bryan So, I must be honest. I did something I never do… I'm a shameless hussy and practically begged the author for an ARC of THE SUICIDE PRINCESS. Well, okay, let’s not get crazy, I didn't have to quite resort to begging, but I did ask to read it and he's such a doll that he indulged my curiosity and honored my bold request!

A recommendation was what first piqued my interest in THE SUICIDE PRINCESS, but the blurb is what sealed the deal for me. The story certainly contains elements that I generally flock to:

✔ Erotic
✔ Mysterious
✔ Romantic (sort of)

Stephanie Bradford is a very smart woman, but apparently that is only when it comes to the books. When it comes to practical applications in real life, it seems that she is a complete dumbass. From her very first encounter with the mysterious stranger, Derrick, who was OBVIOUSLY hitting on her, I knew she was going to need a slap in the face to get her out of that lust induced haze brought on by said stranger.

Stephanie has it all, but in the middle of all the perfection, she is missing the passion she once had with her husband. So, in a snap decision, she puts everything on the line for a little nookie – ok, a lot of dirty-hot nookie, but nookie nonetheless. Good lord! I was stressed out while reading the first few pages, because I knew what it was all leading up to – I also knew nothing good could possibly come of it. Here’s what I learned from her lover turned psycho:

... treat a slut like a lady and treat a lady like a slut ...

I like that. Being a lady myself, I understand the excitement behind that mentality. You just want to remember that if you are married, then your husband should be the one treating you like a slut (if you’re a lady, of course). I have no idea what lover-boy Derrick has in his pants, but it must be one magical cock, because Stephanie’s poor decision to flirt via text message turns into an illicit affair in record time. Stephanie must have been feeling VERY deprived because she puts her marriage in jeopardy, her job as an up and coming attorney at risk and generally puts sex with Derrick before just about everything else.

Where on earth does a woman find a husband like Jacob? That man is a freaking saint! He definitely deserves the “Husband of the Year” award – well, I keep forgetting that he was totally ignoring Stephanie’s sexual needs, so he isn’t perfect, but damned near close to it!

THE SUICIDE PRINCESS is a great story for readers who enjoy an exciting combination of suspense, sex, lust and romance. New author, Anthony Bryan is definitely going on my “Men Who Write Erotic Romance - Must Read” list (if you know me, then you know I am less inclined to read erotic/romance reads written by male authors, but I am slowly changing my mind on that.). Check out THE SUICIDE PRINCESS, I doubt you will be disappointed.

The Perfect Match (Blue Heron #2) - Kristan Higgins I declare this book a WINNER!

Winner of what, you say? The winner of the “cozy romance” award – I don’t even know if that category exists, but I am creating it if it doesn’t. THE PERFECT MATCH is the kind of book that makes you feel good… cozy and happy and you can feel the romance in the air – and THAT is what a cozy romance is ☺

THE PERFECT MATCH is sweet, romantic, well written and has a boatload of characters I just can’t wait to learn more about! This is a sweet, cozy romance that you wouldn’t mind your mother or your teenager stumbling across – heck, you would probably even encourage them to read it! The romantic scenes are fade to black, so there’s no worries of having to explain any freaky sex moves or toys – you know, I love those dirty erotic reads too, but sometimes it’s nice to get back to basics with a PG rated romance.

This is the second book I have read by author, Kristan Higgins and I have really enjoyed both, so I can’t wait to check out some of her other titles. THE PERFECT MATCH is the second in the BLUE HERON series, but I jumped straight into this one and didn’t feel like I was missing anything, but you can bet I will be back tracking to see who fell in love in book one. If you want to read a book that just makes you feel good and happy all over, then THE PERFECT MATCH may just be… well, the perfect match for you ;-)

(Scheduled for release on or around Oct 29, 2013, it's available for pre-order now!)

Rebecca's Lost Journals, Volume 3: His Submissive - Lisa Renee Jones Safewords, bondage and voyeurism combined with Masters, subs and mystery makes for a very interesting read. Don’t sell yourself short though… Rebecca’s Lost Journals are supplemental to the INSIDE OUT trilogy designed to tide you over between books 1 & 2 (IF I WERE YOU and BEING ME).

I am finding that the journals provide a little insight to what is going on in Rebecca’s mind as she tumbles down the rabbit hole and further into the world of BDSM. In this series of entries, we see a little more of a second master and a glimpse into her first experience in a BDSM club.

Time is a-wastin’ and I must keep it movin’, so on to the next series of journal entries!

Last Chance Summer: A Short Story - Hope Ramsay image

So sweet it'll make your teeth rot!

This one was super cute! Short and sweet! You have got to start reading this when you are looking for a quick STORY... if you go into it expecting a novel, then you are not going to be a happy camper. The author did a great job at giving us a concise story with a fair amount of detail while drumming up a mini plot set in the present.

I would like to see a longer BOOK by this author. I would definitely read it!

Tasting Never (Never Say Never, #1) - C.M. Stunich TASTING NEVER was a lot darker and deeper than I expected. It’s not a rosy romance; it’s not a feel good kind of book. It’s sad, angsty and like most angsty books, a little frustrating at times.

Never Ross and Ty McCabe are one perfectly broken, well-matched couple who are definitely soul mates if I have ever seen soul mates. As individuals and knowing their sordid and promiscuous pasts, I can understand why each thinks no one would every want them, but by some fantastical twist of fate, they have found each other. Wait, don’t get too excited, their story is not all puppies and posies; they have a rough road to tow, but their angsty journey is worth the effort.

I am definitely interested to see how Never and Ty’s story plays out. I have a sneaky suspicion that readers are in for more turmoil and angst and I am anxious to see where they finally end up! Grab this first book of three if you are into “New Adult” romance full of drama and tortured characters.

A Beautiful Heist - Kim Foster A BEAUTIFUL HEIST made me want to go put on my cat suit on and bone up on my MacGyver skills, because being a jewel thief is sexy and who doesn’t love to feel sexy?

Cat Montgomery is a professional thief and she is damned good at it. One big snafu is that her ex-boyfriend is an FBI agent and he is on to her, but Cat apparently likes to live on the edge because she is also dodging bullets from her former friend and mentor and let’s not forget the art thief who is “helping” her or is he?

Kim Foster does a great job combining a variety of elements that make a great read. There’s mystery and mayhem, romance and don’t forget the humor – the heroine, Cat, is funny and quite entertaining. One area for improvement in this book, in my opinion, would be to pick a plot and stick with it. I kind of felt that the story was a bit watered down, because there was just SO MUCH going on – at times, I felt it was too much and tended to skim a bit over the plot lines that I was less interested in.

Despite the weak points, I liked the book and I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future.

Soul Stripper (Soul Stripper, #1) - Katana Collins SOUL STRIPPER didn’t work for me. I wanted it to, but it didn’t hold my attention. Honestly, I thought it was a poor imitation of Richelle Mead’s Succubus series. I didn’t connect with Monica, the lead character – I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there was just something about her that was a little off. For a succubus, I was expecting the sex scenes to be off the charts, but they were mediocre at best.

So, there’s no need to belabor the point. It wasn’t for me, but there were plenty of people who liked it, so if it strikes your fancy, then check it out. You might love it.
